Well, pooh!

I have no idea what happened! I have made this dress once before with super results. The fabric of that dress was a bit thicker, but I've made bias skirts before with thin fabrics.

In this first picture I'm showing how floppy the inside wrap is. That is suppose to hug the body. Instead it is flopping forward and not at all fitted.

Here we have an unfortunate floppy neckline.

And here at the back the bias pieces of the skirt have completely stretched out and sagged down to my calves.

Not looking too bad to you? Trust me, this is beyond the point of fixable. There are several bummers here. First, I've had this fabric in my stash for 3 years. Now that I see it on it's not a huge favorite, but there's 3 yards of fabric there. That's at least $15 wasted. Second, I had to sew almost all the seams before I could try it on. Did I mention I added a full lining? So I've spent 4 days of sewing time on this junky thing. Arg!!!

  1. Bummer is right. But remember that as sewists we are allowed a few klunkers from which to learn. Perhaps stay tape or clear elastic along the front seams would have helped along with trimming a bit off the bottom front tapering to the neckline. Too late now I guess. The fabric is cool however; could you make a skirt? If you don't like the print near your face it may work well as a skirt.

  3. Been there done that..it is a bummer but we live and we learn. Your next project will be extra fabulous and in no time, this one will be a distant memory.

  6. Which pattern is this? It looks like it could possibly be New Look 6429, which Trena (Slapdash Sewist) was also wadding today...

  7. Oh that's a bummer, but your title is so cute. Mine would have been much more profane. LOL.

  8. Oops, I keep forgetting to post pattern information. This is Vogue 7693. It's actually quite funny how long this is. It's suppose to be knee length.

  10. I hate when this happens. Sometimes it's not the pattern that causes the problem; it's the fabric. Bummer is right.

  11. I'm sorry. The time, all the fabric. Pat yourself on the back, get a kiss from someone special, and you'll feel better. I'm working with Butterick 4995, and I almost tossed it today.
