Um, blah!!!
I just got an email from McCall's, alerting me to the fact that they have new spring patterns. Well, alright! It's not often I get the email that I don't already know about the new line. I have been known to stalk the pattern websites for new stuff. Anyway, my excitement was short-lived. I apologize in advance if you like this new stuff, but I found it so dull. Some downright ugly. Saggy-crotched M.C. Hammer pants, are you kidding me?!!! Am I living under a rock and these are now in style again? Okay, so some of the patterns are fine, but nothing I haven't already got in the stash or seen a bunch of times before. What do you think? Are there any here you are excited about? (And please, if you like the saggy-crotch pants, don't send me hate mail.) :)

I'm with you! I started seeing these pants on The Sartorialist, a fashion blog that I began to look at a few months ago. Thankfully I've yet to see them IRL. They are called drop crotch pants. I just call them ugly.
ReplyDeleteBased on the pattern picture alone I'd agree. However I saw a fabulous pair in a store window in plain black silk. My daughter was in raptures so I'll show her this pattern. Not for me though, I wore them in the 1970s!!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd look great in the cap sleeved jacket at McCalls 5859.
I felt the exact same way. But then I almost always feel this way with McCall's. The stylish patterns in their collection are exceptions.
ReplyDeleteI just looked at those this AM. My first thought, same stuff, nothing new. Which means I don't have to spend any more money on patterns right now!
ReplyDeleteHAHA!! I got that email too. :) I haven't peeked yet but I DID go to the Hancock's website & see when they go on sale next! (Mar 17 I think, and Simplicity is the 12-15)
ReplyDeleteOkay, you are right, My Fabrication, I do like the 5859 fitted jacket. I guess my eyes completely skipped over that one.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one that stalked pattern websites! =) I totally agree with you! All the ones I did like and I already had a similar McCall pattern.
ReplyDeleteI agree...although I'm way too young to remember some of these styles the first time around, but still I do not see how many of these styles are flattering! And that's saying a lot since I'm pregnant and not much is flattering at the moment :)
ReplyDeleteBut I did find one potentially usable pattern for myself- 5851. I also agree with My Fabrication - 5859 could work for you!
Vogue, March 2009, page 423. There they are, the saggy crotch harem pants by Ralph Lauren. Hated them in the 80's and can't say that over two decades has anything changed.
ReplyDeleteNothing special is right. That does work well for all of us trying to use pattern stash and not add to our list.
ReplyDeleteapologies to those who like them but hideous was the first word that came to mind... i lived through them once already... PLEASE, not AGAIN!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteyep, there was lots to make fun of this time around!
ReplyDeleteHa! Those pants are awesome! In a really, really bad way, of course. :) Bet if anyone could make them look good, though, it'd be you.
