Why I love Macy's

Warning: The following post has nothing to do with sewing!

It's a well know fact to people that know me that I love Macy's. Pretty much everything I wear that's not hand made has been bought there. I have their credit card. They send me tons of coupons. I love them. However, often times when I go there with friends or family members, there's slim pickings. So just to prove it to you/them, here is what I purchased on a recent trip there with some birthday money.

(Oh, I feel I must tell you that I am not a brand name person. I care about good quality fabrics, things that are well made, and garments with great fit, but not about who's name is on the label. I have included that information only in case there's interest.)

Here's a great black denim jacket from Charter Club complete with pocket piping, interesting topstitching, and Hong Kong finishes for the inside seams. It's a great staple item that I was lacking.
Original price $60.00 - Marked down to $18.00 - With a coupon $11.00 (I can't even buy the fabric for that!)

Up next, a lightweight cotton tunic from Sunny Leigh with very well done white embroidery. It's a little more fitted then the typical tunic. I thought it would be great next summer with my white linen pants. And, as I don't own an embroidery machine, it's not something I could make.
Original price $59.00 - Marked down to $17.70 - With a coupon $10.70

This red rayon/spandex blend top from Sunny Leigh is perfect for wearing as a shell under jackets this fall and winter. It has sequins sewn down the front and a cute tie in the middle. I've only ever embellished one thing before, and that was a lot of work.
Original price $49.00 - Marked down to $7.35 - With a coupon $4.35

Next up is the exact same top as the red one above, in brown. Same prices apply.

And finally a simple black shell from Style&Co (Macy's store brand) that I was needing. It's mostly nylon with some spandex thrown in. The front fabric is doubled for a nice, smooth look.
Original price $24.00 - Marked down to $3.60 (They don't take coupons for their store brand)

The coupon I used was a $20 off a $50 purchase - (you have to have their credit card to receive these in the mail.) With tax, the total came to $36.76. Not a bad haul, right? I think they have better prices for clothing than discount stores, you don't have to comb through racks and racks of clothing, and the customer service and cleanliness of the store is really great.

Now, don't everyone flock to the Macy's I go to and buy up all the good stuff, kay? :)

  1. We don't have Macy's in Canada. When I was in Portland summer 2008, I bought four of my favourite skirt style for a total of 20.00. GREAT buy. Loved the place.

  3. I have always liked Macy's. It was the only place I could get decent petite clothing back in New Hampshire. I used to get great buys there and would often compare with one of my workers who would spend way more on her not very nice wardrobe from WM. She refused to go into to Macy's because she felt she "couldn't afford it." Then she would spend way more than I ever did at her favorite WalMart. Yikes!!!

  4. OMG . . . I did a blog post about my love for Macys a while back! Great minds think alike. My daughter works at Macys in Lewiston, Idaho, so she keeps me in the loop of all the great sales . . . but isn't there ALWAYS a great sale! Love those clearance racks! Bought about $750 worth of back to school clothes for my boys (and a couple of things for me) in September and paid $230. Amazing!

  6. Even though we can make our own clothes, retail therapy - and at a bargain none-the-less is always good for boosting morale. LOL

  8. I'm in Canada as well so we don't have Macy's, however when I visited NYC in June they had an amazing sale with 50% or more off and I got a huge haul of bargains. It was great.

  9. THanks for reminding me about that! I used to work for the now-defunct Marshall Fields while in college, and got the most insane deals!!! I really need to start shopping at Macy's! My coworker shops there too and has the most fab wardrobe.

  10. Of course we don't have a Macy's here in London (more's the pity) but as I visit the US regularly I know the store well. I always pop into their NYC store and get quite lost for hours! I also really like their branch in South Beach, Miami which is, obviously, much smaller but has a nice selection of stuff. I really enjoy the Project Runway episodes that have the Macy's challenge because then you get to see the designers attempting to make 'real clothes for real people' which is always interesting. You bought some great stuff for terrific prices - I particularly like that cotton tunic with white embroidery - for $10.70 that's amazing value!

  11. I really like your first item, the jacket! I wish it would be from Style&Co so I could get it here, as it's also the home brand of Canada's The Bay stores, I guess they must owned by the same company... That's the brand I buy when I shop there, and my favorite, as everything else is really expensive at The Bay (designer brands).

  12. Charter Club was always one of my favorite stores when it was a stand alone store! I have always thought their clothes were well made.
You did quite well on your shopping trip!

  15. I too shop my local Macy's and LOVE to use the coupons. My total always comes to less than I was expecting. And I agree about the comparison to discount stores. What a waste of time and money to have to hunt for something that won't even last a few washings because of the poor quality. Macy's is my favorite along with New York and Company.
