BWOF April picks

Well, there seem to be an overabundance of t-shirts and t-shirt dresses in this magazine. Snore. Once I got past that whole "Family Holiday" section, there were some real winners that I absolutely adore.

Top 101 is cute with that double-breasted button closure and bottom tie with casing. I'm not especially fond of the sequin trip it's sporting, but otherwise it looks fun and flirty.
Top 105 I LOVE. I have been looking for a ruffled front blouse pattern for some recently purchased kelly green charmeuse. Jackpot! Although I think I'll add some button and loop closures to that deep V neckline.
Skirt 125 is another one I'm certain to make up. The bottom flounce is bias cut and the back bow looks a little retro to me. I may even copy the color of their sample and do it in red.
Dress 127 is by far my favorite design in this magazine. The off-the-shoulder arm bands are super sexy and gathered to look like bows. The front inset rectangle really gives it some visual interest, and y'all know how much I like interesting construction lines.
But, I'm taking a pass on this month's many do-it-yourself projects and accessories. How about you? What do you think is a must-have of these new designs?

  1. I agree, I absolutely love the ruffle front blouse and the red skirt! The rest of this issue I could take a pass on. I guess that's ok, otherwise I'll be overwhelmed with too many projects at once, per usual.

  2. I'm loving the skirt and blouse as well and Jacket 126 and skirt 140 if I can cut it down to my size. Also like top 144...the preview didn't really do justice to the designs...I was pleasantly surprised with this issue.

  3. Top 105 is lovely. I've seen that style so often lately in RTW.

  4. Haven't got mine yet, but I like the look of the ruffle blouse and the skirt. I would leave the bow off, but I think it still would be cute.

  6. You picked almost exactly the things I like too. My absolute favourite is also the dress. Don't think I'll ever make it, as I haven't a clue how to make an fba on this (have only done that once anyway). Besides, the off-the-shoulder straps aren't very practical for me, but I still love love love it. I'm a beginning sewist and spend much more time dreaming about patterns than sewing, so that doesn't help either :-). I'm really glad you like the dress too and look forward to seeing it made up!

  9. I always look forward to reading your Burda picks, you have a great eye! Like you I picked out 101, 105 and 125. Also like you I decided that the ruffled blouse was too 'plunging'for my taste. I really love the dress you chose, I think it's a stunning style, but I thought for me there might be too many fitting problems. It will look wonderful on you though!

  11. I really like the ruffled blouse and the skirt with the flounce. I had the same concern as you about the plunging neckline. I'd be interested to see your button/loop solution. I recently discovered your blog and I love your Burda picks and your super-neat seam finishing. I notice that you had made a couple of BWOF jackets that required shoulder pads: 03-2009-111 and 05-2009-102B. BWOF doesn't give any directions about what kind of shoulder pads and what thickness to use nor any directions about sewing them in. Do you have any tips?

  12. I love the off shoulder dress details also. I think the blouse is great, too. The other must have for this issue is the tulip skirt.

  14. Blouse 105 is a must have! I too would use some sort of fastener on the blouse. It can be dressy or casual. Great pick. I also like blouse 102 and skirt 111 because they are sort or retro chic. I am also a SAHM. I am amazed at how many projects you make. Thanks for the inspiration! Can't wait to see which of these new ones you make.
