Simplicity 2927 - Retro Green Tunic

Okay, finally done with this thing. I'm a little annoyed because it was suppose to be a fast and easy project, but was not. It's a little snug, as you might can tell by the pictures, and that's with the side seams let out. Here's the front view:

Here's the back:

Plus, the original fabric I chose for the neck band did not work out. I pressed and pressed and pressed that silly collar. It never would lay flat and finally got scorched. I called it a night and went to bed. In the morning I concluded that I needed a new fabric with a little give to it, and chose a cotton.

So the jury is still out on this. If I had been smart, I would have cut it in a bigger size. It would have fit better over the pants as well. Any comments?

  1. I see you have finally crossed over to the blogging world. Addicting huh?! I have always thought you were a fantastically talented sewer. My question is.... when do you have time?!

  2. i just can't get past the idea of having something 'too snug' on and actually taking a front and back picture then posting it publicly! no, i don't mean you - I MEAN ME! your smashing up-and-down the stairs 20 times a day figure allows you this freedom and i'm super impressed. :) well done! (and well done not just throwing a frustrating blouse right out the window as i might have done. :) )

  5. I love it and it doesn't look too snug at all. But if it feels too snug...what about leaving the sideseams let out and making side vents? I've had to do this a couple of times and after I get over the frustration of screwing up, I'm happy to wear the top! :)

  6. angie.a - great idea! I'm a little tired of working with it right now. I'm planning to give it a week or so and then reevaluate. That might be my solution. Thanks!

  7. I'm so glad I stumbled across your blog! This pattern is on my table, waiting to be cut, and it really helps seeing it on a real person, rather than the cartoons on the envelope!! Did you skip the pockets? How did you choose the size; the envelope or the pattern measurements?

  8. Kristine - I love the pockets but didn't think the pattern of the fabric would line up and look good on it if I included them. I went by the measurements on the pattern, but caution you to make it a little bigger on the bottom if you want to wear it as a tunic over some pants. I cut it to fit my hips normally, not thinking it needed to go over anything.
