Spring 2017 Sew-Along: The Big Reveal!

Welcome to week 8 of the McCall's Spring 2017 Sew-Along! My overalls are finished and it is time for the BIG REVEAL!

Here are the links to every week thus far:
Week 1 - Announcement
Week 2 - Inspiration Fabrics
Week 3 - Making a Muslin/Toile
Week 4 - Darts and Pockets
Week 5 - Seams and Zipper
Week 6 - Meg's tutorial for adding a facing instead of a waistband
Week 7 - Finishing

And... TA DA!

These were a great fit for me right out of the envelope. I did taper the legs in a bit more then drafted. I also made my front pockets a little longer and clipped the corners at an angle to mimic the back ones. Those front pockets were extended to the side seams and I added topstitching to various areas including the side seams and waistband.

I love how these turned out and I have a few new tops in the works to wear with them. I think if you pair overalls with something a little sexy - like an off the shoulder top or even a fitted crop top - then they can look stylish and not like you're trying to revisit your youth. What do y'all think? Am I pulling these off?

I had a lot of fun with this sew-along and hope that you've found it informative and beneficial!

  1. Oh these are just like I imagined they would be on you: just absolutely cute! Beautifully constructed and I love them in the dark denim. Also love how you've styled them with the shoes and the tee. Great job.

    1. Thanks Manju! I do think they'd look better with a sexier top, but that tee worked for the reveal pictures.

    1. It's a great pattern and the fit is very RTW. I don't have a lot of experience making pants - because generally I hate it - but these fit me really well. Thanks Lisa!

  9. Beautiful! To my own amazement I really like these overalls on you (I think it is really hard to make overalls look cool), they look very stylish on you, and I especially like your tapered legs (which I didn't expect in overalls).

    1. Thank you Frifris!! I couldn't see revisiting my college overalls look, which was baggy and light colored denim, so I went for the opposite. I like the result as well! Fresh but not overly youthful.

  10. This is so perfect for you. You have the right figure to carry it off. I on the other hand am looking for my 90s overalls with generous fit.

    1. I don't know, I think you could rock them. You just need the right attitude and confidence. Channel your inner Nicki Minaj.
