June Burda Picks

Boring. Voluminous. Simplistic. Those are the words that come to mind to describe this month's design offerings. I've said it before - I'll not be renewing my subscription when it expires in August.

T-shirt 120 is a nice basic top that I may make if I ever need a basic T in a specific color and can't find it at Target. I probably never will, though.
Top 124 is pretty in the sheer white on page 31. I probably will make this one as I'm always wondering what to do with sheer fabrics.
And... that's it.

I'm still working on the white floral silk dress I started the first of May. More white Ambiance had to be ordered from Vogue fabrics (who has a fabulous selection of Ambiance, BTW) so I won't be able to finish the lining until that arrives.

Here's a picture of my beautiful Rachel, who is 9 months old today. Can you believe that?!

  1. I let my subscription run out a few months ago. I thought there were so many of the same styles just repeated over and over. They do fit great though I have to admit. Little Rachel is getting so big. She is as cute as her mom. Happy sewing... Kathy

  2. Thank you for the picture of Rachel. She is a sweet little thing!! I am off of sewing right now, have been on a cutting out phase. Now I have a stack of things ready to sew, whenever I got my mojo back!

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Rachel is a very pretty baby with the longest eyelashes in the world! Bless her.

  4. This issue was the last in my subscription and I too have decided not to renew. I think I have enough magazines anyway now to make plenty of different things when I feel like a challenge. Your description of this month's issue was right on. I am looking forward to receiving two Japanese pattern books in the mail soon, which I think will be fun. Rachel is just as cute as ever! We celebrated our middle DS's birthday yesterday (9 years old already). They grow so fast! Enjoy the rest of your long weekend!

  5. I actually found Ambiance at my local Joann's fabric. I about fell over. With the 50 percent off coupon it was $5 a yard. I bought some in every color they had (purple, red, navy, black, brown and cream).

  6. Your baby is utterly gorgeous!

Agree re. Burda mags - I keep thinking the next one will be better... and it isn't.

  7. Rachel looks so cute. Is she still such a tiny little thing? I hope you're not worried about that anymore, she looks marvelous.

I still have a subscription on Burda. I am a bit bored by it too, but somehow I am too curious to see if there will be a month in which they are going to suprise me positively again. I can't help it :)

  8. Oh Rachel is gorgeous. Her smile just lighted up my own eyes.

As for Burda, it goes in cycles. When you first buy Burda everything is new and wonderful. Then you start finding repeats and notice they try to appeal to different demographics (?sp? I really shouldn't use a word I can't spell). June was the new sewist. They could have skipped th plus update because it was all repeats and NOT in summer styles.

  9. May was my last one and I won't be renewing...for now anyway. There are so many patterns that I still haven't made up and like others say, they keep repeating themselves.

  10. What a beautiful smile! I also wasn't inspired by this month's Burda. I agree about possibly sewing the blouse, but otherwise I doubt I'll sew anything from this issue. It doesn't matter I am so backed up on patterns I would like to sew that I will never catch up anyway!

  11. You are right about Burda's June issue! I received it and am less than impressed. In fact, I am pretty disappointed. However, there were a nice pair of Bermuda shorts that I will sew for my 4 yr. old son! BTW, your daughter is adorable!

  12. How exciting, Marcy Tilton has linked your blog to her newsletter. Your blog is so worth reading, congrats :))

  13. To me Burda is like watching the movie "Ground Hog Day!" I have not renewed. I agree with a prior comment, I have so many patterns that I could sew one of each for two lifetimes and still only dent the collection. That said, I do like to see the fabrications for inspiration. Does that make me fickle?

  14. How cute! She looks so happy. I cancelled my subscription to Burda last year when it became too much to trace. I guess I was spoiled but I couldn't differentiate between the lines. Plus, it was all getting same old same old. They actually refunded me back the prorated amount. Anyhoo, I've been having fun with other companies, trying new ones and buying an occasional Burda envelope pattern. I still go back to my old Burdas and even bought a few back issues. I don't miss it at all.

  15. I'm not a subscriber, so can't comment on Burda, but that little pixie-faced babe of yours is darling!

  16. I had a feeling that there wasn't much in this month's Burda that you would like but I'm sorry that you won't be continuing your subscription because I love reading about your take on their offerings. Rachel is looking so happy and adorable - she must bring you and your family so much joy and pleasure!

  17. Rachel is such a sweet baby! I love that happy face.
I was pretty much finished with Burda when they changed over the website. It's so dang hard to preview the images and decide on an issue that it's just not worth my touble any more.
