Summer Vogues!

Whew! There's only so much negativity I can take. Thanks for everyone's supportive comments per a peculiar listing on etsy. I've had to turn on comment moderation to stop the nasty comments from the person who stole my pictures, but please leave your comments and I will approve them quickly.

To clear the air, lets talk about Vogue's new summer patterns! (And BTW, as I am not making any money from posting Vogue's pattern pictures, and am actually offering them some free advertising and links to their website, I am not breaking any copyright laws.)

Vogue 1350
This is a Rachel Comey shirtdress. The lines on this dress are interesting and I love the fitted shape. I'm picturing it in a solid color to showcase the design.

Vogue 1352
This is for a knit. I love the lapped fronts and neck binding. It's an easy dress to throw on and look cute without much effort. I have a lone leopard belt that I never can figure out what to wear with, so I think I'll choose my fabric with that belt in mind.

Vogue 1353

If I could reach into my computer screen and pull this exact dress out and hang it in my closet, I would be ecstatic! I do so love a neckline with visual interest to give some oomph to the small chested. This dress is by Kay Unger.

Vogue 8902
Another great design with awesome construction lines! Also, the sleeves have little gathers at the neckline. So many possibilities! I like the directional stripe example, the solid shown here, and the colorblocked ones.

Vogue 8903
Ooh, a shirtdress for knits! Wouldn't this be lovely in a silk jersey? I have the perfect royal blue silk jersey in my stash. Front pockets give extra oomph to small girls too. Plus, check out that collar with collar stand! Super cute!

Vogue 8904
This dress reminds me of one I attempted several years ago but ultimately abandoned. But oh!, how much do I love this one with different color stripes?! I think I need two, one with sleeves and stripes and one sleeveless in a solid color.

I thought the photography for this pattern release was really nice. They show the garments from every possible angle so you can really get a feel for how it will fit. Anyone have any favorites that I missed?

  1. Funny, I just looked through the new Vogues and you picked most of my favorites too!

  2. I'm sorry your dealing with so much negativity. I always like this post if for no other reason then you let me know when the new ones are up. I like the last one too. Now off to look for myself.

  4. I love your picks, especially the striped knit (Marcy Tilton). She has an example she made on her blog. Love her neckline treatment. I definitely like the styling this season. So much easier to see than the group "in the window" a couple seasons back.

Sorry about the "idiots on the internet." Bizarre!

    1. I went to her wesite - love the top she made from the same pattern! LOL, those window photos were hysterical! I especially love how people are mimicking them when sewing one of those patterns. It definitely got everyone talking, which is probably what Vogue was after in the first place!

  5. Can't get on the website to see the new Vogues - it's just not responding, so thank for posting these. I saw Marcy Tilton's variations of her dress that you posted above on her blog yesterday, including a top she made from the same pattern.

    1. Yeah, they took forever to load to my computer. I'm not sure what's going on with their website. I have been stalking them waiting for these new summer patterns. Vogue is always my favorite for intricate designs and unique patterns.

  6. I don't know if you've deleted the nasty comments yet - but some bloggers I know (on other subjects) let the nasty comments through, knowing that their readers will both know they are ridiculous and also give that commenter a written beatdown. It's often very amusing to watch.

  7. I meant to add another paragraph - A post just quoting the hateful comments is also sometimes amusing. I know *you* don't find the comments amusing but they can lose their sting when regular commenters point out just how ridiculous they are.

Obviously, this is just a suggestion. I do, however, hope you are saving the comments to forward to both etsy and Vogue so that this person's etsy shop can be shut down.

    1. No, I'm done. The photos were taken down, that's all I care about. I'm not after revenge or seeking to humiliate the other party. It is over. Now, if she would just stop posting the same harassing comment 36 times in a row...

  8. I jumped straight into the sale and bought the new Marcy Tilton pattern. I stopped myself from purchasing the Kay Unger dress as I have so many unmade dress patterns but do admire her designs.

    1. You and everyone else. That pattern is now sold out!

  9. I also jumped into the sale and got 3 of the ones you posted. In addition, I bought V1348. This is probably the first collection in a while which had so many patterns I liked.

  11. I agree with you about the Kate Unger dress! The cut of the pattern is a classic and I just HAVE to have that fabric! I'm madly searching the internet for it now!

  12. I am also a big fan of the 1353 dress, fabric and pattern! Unfortunately the pattern is only available in large sizes, so this one is not for me, but the dress is absolutely gorgeous.
About the Marcy Tilton dress: I found a nice post from herself about the construction: http://marcytiltonblog.blogspot.nl/2013/04/new-marcy-pattern-vogue-8904-aka.html

And I am shocked that someone steels pictures and starts harassing you. Love your blog ;)

    1. That is strange that it's only available in big sizes. I'll bet it's an oversight and they offer the smaller sizes too.

      And thanks!

  13. Is it bad that I was putting all of these in my phone notes a as I read it? How did they manage to take decent poses and pics this time?

    1. I need to do that too! I don't blog about new patterns much anymore so am often at the store without my list.

  14. The 8902 is a dead ringer for Diane von Furstenberg's "Helen Dress". The only difference is the back; the DvF has a lower cut. Thanks for this post, I think I need to buy a few more patterns!

    1. *Gasp!* You are right! Check out the sleeve treatment on the DvF dress, it is slightly different too. Great eye!

  15. I love that Rachel Comey shirtdress. It's sold out online right now, sadly, but that will be mine and made up as soon as JoAnn has a sale!

    1. I never pay attention to the online sales since they charge so much for shipping. (I'm looking at you, Vogue. $8 to ship 4 patterns is WAY too much money!) Is it normal for patterns to sell out?! Seems strange for some reason.

    2. I keep a Club BMV membership and wait for the $1.99-ish pattern sales. Makes shipping a lot more bearable!

  16. Completely agree with everything - these picks, your post to "clear the air", your decision to be "done" with Ms Nasty now that you got resolution, the funny poses those window poses engendered, the fabulousness of this set of patterns overall, and your goal (and OURS to get to see it!) to make that fabulous 1353 in that fabric if you can find it...just wanted to say Go Amanda, you rock :)

  17. I, too, recently had to add comment moderation after years of no problems. Wonder if it's something in the air. Sorry this happened to you. Nice dresses.

  18. I really like the dresses you choice, especially the 1353 and the shirt dress. Gorgeous!

  19. I also want the Kay Unger dress...yes, just as it is! If you find the fabric anywhere, please post about it. :) I also liked V1348, the Tom and Linda Platt dress and V1351, the DKNY. While I enjoyed the variety of pictures, I felt that some of the clothes did not fit the models very well.

    1. I agree about the clothing not fitting the models in some pictures. But that is the beauty of making your own clothing! You can make yours to be perfectly fitted!

Grr I'm still so mad at the douche that stole your pics!

  23. I love 1353. It is awesome, but what I love even more, is the models hair style and color.

  24. Hi could you please do a sew along for V1353 :):) I bought it read the instructions and realised it's way out of my skill set... I'm determined to make it anyway but a sew along would save my sanity (and my husbands ears from my swearing when I get it wrong again!) :):):) love your blog BTW!

    1. Hmmmm... There's no telling when I might get around to making it. I've never done a sew-along before and am not sure I'd have the patience for it.

  25. Any chance you will do a sew along for the V1353?? I've got the pattern and have gone straight to panicking! :(

    ReplyDelete
  26. BTW does anyone know where you can get the fabric from in the V1353 picture?

  27. Amanda, I dont know how else to contact you, but there is a SA Bloggers group on FB and we would love to have you if you are interested. I would have to friend you on FB to add you though. Let me know if you are interested vrtx09@gmail.com

  28. Oh, I am late to comment, but I am so sorry you have been drawn into an awful situation, how awful for you! It's wonderful that you were listened to by etsy and that they fixed up the problem. I'm going through something slightly different right now, where a reader notified me of another blog that was ripping off my posts, my pictures and my image, signing it all off using their own name. They've used literally dozens of my own photos, of my own sewing creations. I've filed a complaint with google, but am still waiting for a response. It's been very upsetting.
